Privacy Policy

The short version. Spooky Swipe has no sign-up and asks for no personal details. It does not want your email, your contacts, your location or your photos.

What it does send off the device is narrow: the name you choose and your score, so the leaderboard works; and the usual analytics and advertising data that come with using Google's Firebase and AdMob. Everything else — your candy corn, unlocks, achievements, streaks and settings — stays on your phone.

What leaves your device

Your name and score

When you put a name to a score, that name and score are uploaded to Google Firebase so the leaderboards can be built. They are stored against a random identifier generated on your device, which is not derived from and cannot be traced back to your Apple ID, your phone number, or any other personal detail.

The leaderboard is public. Any name you enter is visible to everyone who plays the game, on both the weekly and the all-time boards. Please don't use your real name if you'd rather not be identifiable.

Checking names for profanity

To keep the boards usable, any name you enter is sent to PurgoMalum, a third-party filtering service, over an encrypted connection. Only the name text is sent — nothing else about you or your device.

Analytics

The app includes Google Analytics for Firebase, which reports how the app is used — sessions, screens, device model, operating system version, general region — against an app instance identifier. It is used to understand which parts of the game people actually play. Apple's own App Analytics may also report aggregate data to us if you have opted into sharing analytics with developers in iOS settings.

Advertising

Spooky Swipe is free and has no in-app purchases. The only advertising in the game is a single rewarded video you can choose to watch to keep playing after you run out of lives. There are no banners and no ads you cannot skip past.

Those ads are served by Google AdMob, which receives your IP address, device and app information, and ad interaction data in order to serve and measure them. Apple's SKAdNetwork may also be used to measure ad performance without identifying you.

Anti-abuse checks

The app uses Firebase App Check with Apple's App Attest to confirm that requests to the leaderboard come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app rather than a script. This produces a device attestation token that is shared with Apple and Google. It does not identify you and is not used for advertising or analytics.

What stays on your device

Your candy corn balance, shop unlocks and equipped items, achievements, daily streak, daily missions, lifetime statistics and settings are stored on your phone. They are not uploaded and we cannot see them.

Worth knowing: this local data is kept in the iOS keychain, which is why your high score and unlocks come back if you reinstall the game. It also means that deleting the app does not erase it — iOS keeps keychain data until the device itself is reset.

We cannot see this data and we cannot delete it for you, because it never leaves your phone. What we can delete is your leaderboard entry — the name and score held on our server. See Your rights below.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the services needed to run the game:

  • Google Firebase — leaderboards, anonymous authentication, analytics and App Check.
  • Google AdMob — serving and measuring the rewarded video ad.
  • PurgoMalum — profanity checking of leaderboard names only.
  • Apple — App Store distribution, App Attest, SKAdNetwork ad measurement, and App Analytics if you have opted into it.

Each of these handles data under its own privacy policy. Google's is at policies.google.com/privacy and Apple's at apple.com/legal/privacy.

Tracking and your choices

On first launch, iOS may ask whether Spooky Swipe can track you across apps and websites. If you decline, no advertising identifier is shared and you will see less relevant ads — the game is otherwise unchanged. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you will be shown a consent form on first launch covering personalised advertising. You can reopen it at any time from the Privacy Options button on the main menu.

Children

Spooky Swipe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The game asks for no personal details, and the only name it stores is one the player types themselves. If you believe a child has entered information you would like removed, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Data we hold. You can ask us to delete your leaderboard entry — the name and score on our server — at any time. Email ask.app.ben@gmail.com and tell us which name you used on the board. Entries are kept for as long as the boards are running; weekly boards are superseded each week.

Data on your phone. Your progress is held in the iOS keychain and never reaches us, so this is not something we are able to delete on your behalf. Deleting the app leaves it in place. Erasing the device removes it.

Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, and the CCPA in California — you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, correct it, or object to its processing. The same address covers all of these. We do not sell personal information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and the current version always lives at this address. If a future update ever collects something meaningfully new, it will be called out in the app rather than quietly added here.
